『バリバリ伝説』 was serialized in 「週刊少年マガジン」 from 1983 to the 1990s, during the height of the motorcycle boom, and it was one of the works that symbolized the motorcycle craze of that time. The author is Shuichi Shigeno, who has created hit works such as 'Initial D' and 'MF Ghost'. The protagonist, high school rider Gunma Koma, goes from riding on mountain passes to the circuit, and then achieves his dream of winning the Suzuka 4 Hours Endurance Race, which was the aspiration of amateur riders at the time, eventually rising to become the champion of both Japan and the World Grand Prix 500cc category, in a success story. Handling a 750cc bike with astonishing technique and the school love story with his classmate Ai Ito can be said to depict the dreams of young people at that time.
